While exploring the charming streets of Limone sul Garda’s old town, don’t miss one of the village’s most unique and scenic attractions: the Limonaia del Castèl, a magical citrus garden that tells the story of local tradition and life on the lake. Built to capture the sun’s warmth, the white pillars and stone terraces of the ancient lemon houses (limonaie) still rise proudly along the lakeshore, echoing a rich agricultural past. These structures are rare and unique – today, they can only be found in Limone and a few areas between Gargnano and the Brescia coast. In 1995, the Municipality of Limone sul Garda purchased and lovingly restored the Limonaia del Castèl to preserve this important heritage. The site now houses over 100 citrus trees, cultivated in traditional ways across panoramic terraces, complete with an original irrigation system and a small educational trail. The visit is short and peaceful – about 30 minutes – and offers a relaxing experience surrounded by nature and history. You’ll discover not only lemons, but also citrons, grapefruits, mandarins, clementines, chinotti and kumquats, all accompanied by informative panels that explain the history of the limonaia and the fascinating world of citrus fruit. The Limonaia del Castèl is easily reachable on foot from the village center – just follow the ceramic tile signs through the picturesque alleyways. A relaxing and authentic experience – a must-see for anyone who wants to explore the soul of Limone sul Garda.
